Seismic performance of moment resisting steel frame subjected to earthquake excitations

Fadzli M. NAZRI, Pang Yew KEN

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2014, Volume 8, Issue 1,   Pages 19-25 doi: 10.1007/s11709-014-0240-3

Abstract: This study presents static and dynamic assessments on the steel structures.Pushover analysis (POA) and incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) were run on moment resisting steel framesSteel frames are subjected to nonlinear inelastic time history analysis for 14 different scaled groundThe IDA results show that the far field ground motions has caused all steel frame design within the researchto collapse while near field ground motion only caused some steel frames to collapse.

Abstract: important parameters (beam reinforcing plates, initial post-tensioning, and material properties of steelThe PTSC connection is comprised of bolted top and bottom angles as energy dissipaters and steel strandsThe new formulations derived from analytical method has been proposed to predict bending moment of PTSCdominant failure mode when excessive initial post-tensioning force is applied to reach greater bending moment1.5% strain-hardening which has perfectly matched with the real material of steel angles.

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2016, Volume 10, Issue 3,   Pages 312-332 doi: 10.1007/s11709-016-0345-y

Abstract: objective of the research presented in this paper is to study the bending behaviour of Concrete Filled SteelTube (CFST) columns made with Rubberized Concrete (RuC), and to assess the seismic performance of moment-resistingThe test results show that the bending behaviour of CFST elements is highly dependent on the steel tubeAdditionally, it was found that the seismic design of composite moment-resisting frames with CFST columnsnot only leads to lighter design solutions but also to enhanced seismic performance in comparison to steel
